CEO of Glitter & Hustle, Maura Chanz

Maura Chanz

How old are you?
I tend to like omit this in interviews as it’s not something I openly share in business.

Where are you from?

Born in Chicago however I’d say I was raised between there and LA

Are you in school or working?

I am working.

What is your title? (Artist,Blogger, Musician, Stylist, etc.)

CEO of Glitter & Hustle creative agency and performer

Where have you interned?

I’ve interned at BET, True Story Agency, Konlive Distribution, Bates Designs

What’s been your best intern moment?

My best intern moment had to be seeing assets I ordered and scheduled run live on BET.

What’s been your worst intern moment?

I can’t think of any truly bad intern moments besides realizing how much I hate the 9-5 lifestyle.

Where you do you go to look for internships?

My first resource when it comes to looking for internships is Google. I’ve identified companies I’d like to be at via research and then see who in my network may have a connection to said network.

What piece of information would you of liked to have known before you starting out your internship?

I’d like to have known the exact role for the department I was interning in. While I enjoyed my BET internship which was in Branding and Marketing, I realized I wanted to be on more of the creative side and should’ve sought an internship in the creative services department.

What are you currently doing?

I am currently on-camera talent for Bossip and the CEO of my own creative agency. Living that entrepreneur and freelancer life.

What’s your career goal?

Honestly, I have several. I want to puppeteer culture.

Where can people find you? @

@maurachanz across social and maurachanz.com

What’s your favorite color?

Turquoise and black

What do you enjoy doing for fun?

I enjoy spending time with friends and listening to music. I love board and card games and am an avid watcher of Netflix.

Favorite Food?

Home Run Inn Pizza and mac and cheese.

What’s something unique or different about you or your experiences that not many people know?

The thing that is “different” about my experience is that I began my pursuits at the age of 13 when I uprooted and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment.

What advice do you have for people looking to do what you do?

Do it. Don’t underestimate your skill level or experience…some people just got it.

What led you to where you are now?

3 things; my faith in God, the support/affirmation of family and loved ones, and my due diligence….I don’t stop.

What obstacles have you faced? Any victories so far?

I’ve faced many of the cliché obstacles; being told no several times and also being told I couldn’t. I’ve had many victories. Although I am not where I want to be per say, I’ve accomplished many of my goals and solely support myself as an entrepreneur which I’d say is a big victory.

What’s your ultimate end goal?

Happiness and inspiration. I ultimately want to give all of me and make someone’s life better because of it. I plan to do this through a variety of avenues from performance to creative direction.

What projects and plans are you working on now?

I’m currently working on developing a business/personal league for women of color 18-25 called TRIBE. I am creating a web series that centers black women and our lives.

What’s next for you?

I’m getting back in to acting.

What can you say about how you and I know one another? (Work, through a friend, school, etc.)

We are sisters through Spelman. I always recognized your fierceness and although we never became close admired from a far.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

I skinny dipped at the SoHo House??

Who are your role models?

I have so many role models from mentors to contemporaries. A few names that come to mind are my mom, Tai Beauchamp, Asha Kamali, Heather Lowery, Keke Palmer, Oprah, Ava Duvernay, Issa Rae, Kelli Coleman…the list goes on and on

What inspires you? Drives you?

Possibility drives me.

What are your thoughts on my blog?

I think it’s unique. I like the alliteration and think it is very fitting for such a time as now.

So authentic and so motivating. This has been one of my favorite interviews to do so far because she is my Spelman sis and her story is one that is inspiring. It should make you feel that every day should be spent following your vision and your dreams. Do not stop working towards what you believe in. And live life to the fullest.

To Maura,

Thank you for being an inspiration to me. To hustle, to grind, and to follow your heart. That’s where the passion lies. I appreciate this interview more than you know. Thank you again.
